Focus on the music

I'm not sure why, but for a while around this time last year, I really wanted to take wide, out-of-focus photos. It just really appealed to me.

If I were to overanalyze this, I could probably decide that it was because last year was kind of an out-of-focus blur to me because I had a lot of big life changes. Or that maybe I was trying to get myself to see the "big picture" without having to focus too much on the details. I'm not sure the part of my brain that operates a camera is that in sync with my subconscious, though.

Regardless, this is the Newport Music Hall, and I was watching Fitz and the Tantrums.

The night after my friends' L.E.S. Crew show, I was right back at Skully's with my friend Jen to see one of our favorite bands, Sherwood.

The bottom photo shows Justin Reece, the lead singer of opening band Reece, joining the guys for a cover of Party in the USA.

Living Energy System

Two of my friends from high school are in a pretty cool hip-hop band called The L.E.S. Crew.

These photos are from their March 20th show at Skully's. The lighting was especially low that night and was probably most challenging concert lighting I've ever encountered, so I'm glad I was able to end up with some OK photos.

A bluegrass group performed during the International Festival in Troy, Ohio, and the empty seats just couldn't take them seriously.
